Well maybe he could have, but don't forget Lockhart and his memory
charms.  Lockhart did more harm by deleting the memories.  Sure, he
took notes first and wrote books, but I'm sure he didn't get down
every detail.  Otherwise, he'd be famous for doing more than writing
and smiling.
