Actually, Gryffindor had already made a miraculous comeback. 
They were losing by 160 points, which means if Gryffindor had 
been able to score two goals and catch the Snitch in their final 
match,  they'd have won the House Cup anyway.  Does anyone 
think Harry couldn't have managed it? 

Gryffindor did indeed deserve to win the Cup. I really think people 
make too much of Slytherin's humiliation at Dumbledore's 
banner changing stunt. The whole school knew what Harry and 
his friends had done. And it's not like Slytherin offered to share or 
anything ;-)
