Because, I would suggest, Lupin is the one with a wand tucked into his belt,
whilst Sirius is unarmed, and because Snape *knows* that Lupin is unsafe,
having failed to take his potion. He has to get past Lupin, in order to
tackle Sirius.
His wand points straight between Sirius' eyes, as soon as he has controlled
Lupin.

Wondering how Snape *could* have immediately thought that Sirius had
Confunded the trio, when he was the only person in the scenario without a
wand.
