I have to differ, Naama.  The Sneakascope activated because Scabbers 
was, presumably, in the room with Ron when he was sending it to 
Harry.  His presence was what kept it active every time they took it 
out.

By the way, I'm new here, having devoured all four books in the last 
month.  And let me just be forward and throw my hat into the Snape-
will-be-redeemed camp right now.
