At 07:13 PM 3/1/02 -0600, cat lover Kim wrote in response to my argument 
that Hermione keep her cat in her quarters or at least out of the boys' 
side of the tower:

Incorrect.  <insert sound of a buzzer>  While I am a dog person by 
preference, I have had cats.  Cats can be kept inside.  I have several 
friends that can prove it and who have very happy and healthy cats, too!

Since Crookshanks is probably *more* than a cat, Hermione might not have 
the knowledge to keep a kneazel  or half kneazel in her room but her 
attitude was completely insensitive.  Ron had asked her to keep her cat 
away from his rat.  AFAIK, she never even made an effort to do so.  So what 
if the rat was sickly and probably going to die of old age (even if we all 
know he was a rat of an entirely other disposition), she should have made 
some effort to restrain her cat.
