How about this: Maybe Snape isn't an animagus *yet*, but Dumbledore is
going to ask him to learn to become one, for spying purposes. So old
Sev will be especially irritable next year because he has to teach
the "dunderheads" by day as usual, *and then* at night take a crash
course in animagus transformation (from *Sirius*?!?!)...
How's that for a variation on a theme? :)
