Lupin saw them on the map during the first "pass."   Had he looked 
at the map during their second pass, he probably would have seen 
them get Beaky, rescue Black, et cetera i.e. what they did on the 
second pass.  OTOH, they may have shown up in both places on the 
map at the same time, and Lupin just didn't notice them.  He was 
sort of busy at the time, IIRC.

Wondering if the map has a "drag and drop" feature, so the 
Marauders can move people around if they are in an inconvenient 
place.
