Yes, we know that he was discounting Black or eventually Pettigrew, but do 
we know the *why*? Was he simply applying house prejudice, being a 
Gryffindor himself before getting the boot? Or was it simply that Hagrid had 
no desire to tell Harry "Oh, yes, there was one non-Slytherin that went bad, 
your godfather, the one that betrayed your parents..." Seems a bit harsh if 
you ask me, to drop that on a young boy without much warning.
