I think he will!

He doesn't seem like the kind of person who would go over to
the dark side to gain acceptance.

In my opinion he shows plenty of emotional strength just by
coming back to Hogwarts to "endure" another year of Snape.

Though, maybe that's better than Grandma and the rest of the
family?
They don't sound very compassionate to me.

But still, I think Neville will play an important role in
future books, but not as a liability.
