Yes.....bound to serve one house forever.....but what if the senior 
members of that family are killed.....and the infant is sent to live with 
a Muggle family? What becomes of the house elf then? I would certainly 
hope that he isn't killed or bannished! Put to work for another family is 
more to my liking.
