I doubt that his family's special protection is gone, because if it was 
so, D'dore wouldn't have insisted that the Dursley's have Harry "at 
least for a while" before Harry can go with the Weasleys (last chapter 
of GoF). Whatever ancient magic protects Harry while he's with the 
Dursleys, it doesn't seem to be related to the scar.

In fact, it really cannot be related to the scar: _ancient_ magic 
implies that it was used a long time ago (druids, anyone?), and we know 
for sure that Harry's scar it's totally new: it has never happened 
before, so they cannot really be related.
