Newbie Has to Weigh in on Hermione's Value...

 Okay, first off, I gotta say I'm new to this group (if it's based on 
the club of the same name, than I guess I'm an oldie). 

 I have to say, that I think Hermione is NOT as valued a member of 
the "Hogwart's Scoobies" as she should be BUT...I think the main 
reason this is, is because she is a girl (more mature).

 There were a few times when the boys (mostly Ron) held grudges 
against her for silly stupid reasons (Krum, Scabbers, etc.), and 
because of that pride refused to make amends despite her good 
intentions and mostly right point of view. 

 She always tells them what they need to hear as opposed to what they 
want to hear, and so therefore, she's distanced herself from 
being "best friend" and become semi-"mommy".
