Very interesting points.  I haven't thought of it that way before, but
now I'm tempted to do yet another re-read of the books, searching for
more examples of that theme.

Here's something else I thought of that fits:  the Death Eaters wear
hooded cloaks and masks.  Not only does this conceal their identities,
it makes them pretty much indistinguishable from each other.  They
stop being individuals and become Voldemort's faceless tools.
