Many students would qualify for more than one house. Harry qualifies
for all four (read the Sorting Hat's musings about him as it chooses-
-all house qualities are referred to). WHat makes a person great
isn't always what strikes you about them on first glance. As
Hermione herself states toward the end of SS:
"Me!" said Hermione. "Books! And cleverness! There
are more important things -- friendship and bravery
and -- oh Harry -- be careful!"

According to the book, they did. This is from PA14:
"Even the Hogwarts ghosts avoid it," said Ron as they
leaned on the fence, looking up at it. "I asked Nearly
Headless Nick...he says he's heard a very rough crowd
lives here. No one can get in. Fred and George tried,
obviously, but all the entrances are sealed shut...."
