You don't think Dumbledore, who knows the story, would have
let the Weasleys know about Scabbers/Pettigrew?

I can't imagine him *not* thinking of the possibilities and
warning Arthur and Molly.

Otherwise I'd consider this a grave oversight on
Dumbledore's part.
