Well, this theory implies that Voldemort was actually doing Lily a 
favour when he said: "Stand aside, stupid girl". Damn nice thing to 
say to a young mother! The bloke had just killed her beloved husband 
and had been politely asking her to get out of way, so that he can 
kill her only child without interferece... 
"Your mother needn't have died" How nice and sympathetic! Lily Evans 
stood between her son and death, not making the life easier for 
Voldemort. I think that now, after 4th book, the words just 
mean "it's pity she died, the protection she gave you is really 
annoying, even if it can be used for my favour".
And since when Voldemort is showing to have higher feelings? The sob 
realised it was wrong to kill Myrtle only after he'd learned that he 
hurt himself - that is, his plans to spend summer outside orphanage. 
Much as I can symphatize with his hathred for orphanages, I still 
think that he's a terrorist with no moral or social virtues.
