If the spell used by Peter only affected muggles (and, so far, there is
no reason to believe that there are such spells), Peter wouldn't have
been able to fake his own death, since he's a wizard. He had to use a
spell that could kill him, after all, or else it wouldn't make much
sense to use it in the first place.
In the line I started above, although we know that wizards are tougher
than muggles, being able to survive unscathed punishment that would
kill a muggle, this doesn't seem to aply to ofensive spells. AK,
Cruciatus and Imperio are equal-oportunities: they affect equally
muggles and wizards. All other spells that have been tried in both
species have been equally damaging to both (like the memory charm), and
in fact, the wizards seem unimpressed by that fact (i.e. they don't
mention that "we had to give him a low charge, because he's a muggle"
or anything like it), although this could be put down to the deficient
knowledge of muggles by wizards.
