I think it could be simpler than that.

1. Lucius and Draco's names both remind me of Lucifer, aka "that old 
Serpent" and the Dragon referred to in Revelation and the legends of St. 
George.  Note that either a snake or a dragon menaces Harry either directly 
or indirectly in three of the four books: Norbert, the Basilisk, and the 
dragon in the first GoF trial.

2. Their last name, Malfoy, means "bad faith."
