 I thought that he could have made the excuse that he was at Hogwarts

Personally, I think that is a very valid point.  It would have been 
impossible for Snape to disapparate from Hogwarts, giving him a very 
good excuse on why he didn't show up...

Another question I have is....Why didn't "Mad-Eye" go to V. like 
everyone else?  Was is because he couldn't disapparate, or was Crouch 
still pretending?  What I don't get is this...if Crouch new that 
Harry had already gone to V. why didn't he follow?  There is no way 
that he knew Harry was going to beat V. and make his way back.  So 
why did he stick around?  Why didn't he join the DE's?
