I have wondered why he lets him get anywhere near Dumbledore, who's a very 'corrupting influence or Harry potter himself. Did he not want to send Draco to Dumstrang or was that just Draco's boasting?

Snape does seem to favour draco, though if Hermione does beat him (draco) in potions then its just him indulging himself rather than blatant favotism. Why, of course is a harder question. I believe that Snape is A) trying to weaken Draco in some way and B) Indulging his dislike of Harry by praising his opponent.
