Well I really hadn't thought about it until you mentioned it.  But 
I think the reason Snape didn't want to be in the same room was 
because, he is still bitter about not having the DADA job.  Why 
would he want to sit in while someone else teaches "his" job.  There 
has got to be huge amounts of bitterness.  If it was me, I know I 
wouldn't have stayed...
