If the Basilisk killed the Riddles on Tom's command, wouldn't the 
Riddle house be haunted by the 3 ghosts.  I think the first chapter 
of GoF, which gives us the background info, states that the house 
stood empty for the last 50 years... no mention of anything other 
than kids breaking into it to upset Frank.
