Strangely, though Sirius is the character who

Okay, he's a bit volatile. And there's that whole lingering biker
image. But, this is a guy who calls himself Snuffles, not Killer or
Flesh-Ripper. And, I can't find it now, but isn't there a mention
somewhere in Gof that he signed a note to Harry with a pawprint? JKR
may portray Sirius as having that traditional masculinity, but she's
leavened that with what strikes me as a certain streak of whimsy.
