FWIW, I find the characters interesting first, and then (maybe) develop 
along the 'crush' lines.  (Not sure if that answers the question you 
were posing, but then...)  For me, the 'crush' element is likely to 
manifest in creating fanfics, and only comes about through finding a 
character intriguing.

Incidentally, whether characters like Sirius, Remus and Severus are 
good-looking or not is irrelevant to their potential desirability as 
'crush-objects'.  I'd like to pick on a suitably developed female 
character to ask whether the same applies re female 'crush-objects', but 
I can't think of any!
