I think we're over simplifying to assume that Snape is
the only reason the Sorting Hat would have put Harry
in Slytherin. I'm not sure about the complex workings
of the Hat, but I'm assuming that it only really
considers personality traits and characteristics; I
doubt it incorporates additional information in
makings its decision. Harry does share a lot of
personality traits with Slytherins; he's cunning and
sly, but not in the malevolently "Slytherin" sense.

I genuinely think Snape doesn't like Harry. He's just
transferring his loathing of James onto Harry. There's
been no real indication otherwise...things could
change, I suppose.

Erm, I highly doubt whether Snape actually sleeps in
the dorms with the students (where do you get the
reference for this?) It's evident that all the
teachers sleep somewhere at Hogwarts (eg McGonagall's
tartan nightdress, the general events of CoS), however
I'm sure they have their own quarters, rather than
bunking with students.

Just some thoughts...
