I tend to disagree. After all, Rita Skeeter is a living beetle, 
always buzzing around, to get informations, so I it is no wonder, 
that this is her animagus form. Mosquitos don't live very long, but 
neither did beetles, and I can't help but imagine sometime, what 
would have happened, if a hungry bird had spotted her. And although 
Peter is evil, and I can't imagine that he choosed to be a rat. I 
mean, who would? There are other smale characters who can open, even 
Crookshanks was small enough to do so.
