Could be just plain old cat-sense instead of a 'sixth' sense. Maybe they 
didn't smell like rat and dog. I know my cats get all cranky if I come home 
smelling different. Crookshanks is the only animal we see interacting with 
Scabbers and Sirius, really. Sirius in dog form may have given every other 
cat and dog out there the creeps, too.
