I thought that it was made pretty clear in COS that Harry was not 
considered a "mudblood".  Why would anyone consider a non-pureblood to be 
the heir of Slytherin?  Also, I do not think that we know whether Lily came 
from a magical family or not, do we?  My impression in that past was that 
she was muggle-born, but Petunia does make a statement in PS about how 
happy their parents were when Lily turned out to be a witch.
