I've thought about the significance of spiders as well...I think 
spiders are the other item JKR has fixated on throughout the books.  
The first being socks.  She keeps mentioning socks, and i believe if 
you search through the archives, there is an awesome post that counts 
out every occurance of socks in the novels so far (of which there are 
many).  Hmmm...pulling spiders off of a sock.  what does it mean....

well...just something to think about :-)
