Could it be possible that Ginny scratched the snake on the faucet 
while under Riddle's influence? It would be easy for a her to have 
access to the chamber since that bathroom is notoriously unoccupied 
due to Myrtle but no one really think it strange her for going in 
there.
 
Or maybe Riddle left several passages to the chamber hidden all over 
the school before he left.
