Hi!  This is my first post, but I've been on the list for a while.  
I'd just like to point out something about the portkey.  Marcus says 
portkeys have to have a predetermined destination, but the school 
*did* know where Harry was.  When Hagrid finally gets to Harry and 
has had his yelling bit with Dursley, he hands Harry his letter, on 
page 51, American hardback.  The letter is addressed to: "Mr. H. 
Potter, The Floor, Hut-on-the-Rock, The Sea."  So a portkey can't be 
ruled out, though I'll admit I don't think that's how it was done, 
though I suspect that will be revealed later on.  I sure hope so, 
I've been wondering about it for a while!
