Voldemort was in no position to object to the change in plans,
since it was JKR's not Wormtail's. In other editions of the book
the language has been changed: from "murder" to "curse" , from
"died" to "disappeared" and from "death" to "obstacle removed."
I have a feeling the person who was originally supposed to die
was Crouch Sr., but that JKR decided she wanted Crouch Jr. to
kill him, not Wormtail.
