Rowling has in an interview ascertained that Hagrid
is going to be around in all the books (that does
not, of course, exclude the possibility of him
returning as Hagrid the Ghost, but it didn't really
sound that way to me).

So was the death of Cedric Diggory, according to JKR -
I must admit that after reading GoF, I had a feeling
of "was that all - was that really the awful death we
had been hearing about?" Therefore I tend to take that
'horrible death' somewhat more relaxed - it might be
any of the Creeveys or it might be Lavender Brown -
there is just no way to tell.
