Well, if i remember correctly, Voldemort was actually holding the wand when he used it to kill the gardner. He was still just an awful ugly "thing" sitting in a chair, but he was able to hold a wand none-the-less. So it's possible that Pettigrew was carrying Voldemort and V was holding the wand when the others were killed by it as well. It would be a little undignified, but at this point, i don't think V cares too much about being dignified.
