Yeah, Dumbledore actually drew a chair for Professor Trelawney.  PoA, chapter 11, 
page 228 in the Scholastic paperback edition.  Trelawney has come down to join the 
small group having Christmas feast in the Great Hall.

And he did indeed draw a chair in midair with his wand, which revolved for a few 
seconds before falling with a thud between Professors Snape and McGonagall.

Sounds to me like he used his wand as a pencil and drew a chair in the air, which 
became a real chair (at least for the duration of the meal).
