Now me:
I'm not sure if JKR actually mentioned where the Potters *live*.  I 
believe that Godric's Hollow (convenient as is may sound to 
the "Harry is the heir of Gryffindor" believers) is just the 
location where the Potters were *staying* whilst hoping to escape 
and hide from Voldemort, thinking they were safe.  Does anyone agree 
here?  Or disagree?
