Me: It's not "an area-specific myth" as far as I know, it's the same in Spain and France, in fact, the real Nicholas Flammel was French, or he did live in France. And there were Spanish alchemist trying to discover the philosopher's stone five hundred years ago. Its Spanish name is "piedra filosofal", more or less the same name. If I'm not mystaken, the philosopher's stone is a well known myth all through Europe, at the very least.
