Actually, I think Hermione's age was controversal only because of 
the Hermione is Harry's long lost sister theory. For it to be viable 
she had to be older than him by at least 10 months (well possibly 
nine but I'd like to give Lily a little break!)  Anyways, if Harry 
and Hermione were brother/sister then there would be a definite "EW" 
factor in the H/H ship.  However, the dvd timeline squashes almost 
any chance of the H/H brother/sister.
