Ron's Wand

Which raises another question. How would Ron have been expected to 
perform spells correctly, not to mention pass his exams, with a 
broken wand? Professors McGonagal and Snape both comment on it. I 
know I may be splitting hairs here, but it makes no sense to expect 
a wizard-in-training to accomplish much with a broken wand, 
especially for an entire school year.
