Except that Neville does refer to himself in this way later in the
series(I'll try to find out exactly where when I get to my book).
He says: "And everyone knows I'm practically a squib anyway." or
something similar in conversation with the trio, I seem to remember.
But the exact occasion is lost to me.
That said, we still don't know if it would occur to Neville to refer
to himself as a squib when recalling how his family suspected him of
not being magical. This just shows that him being almost a squib is
something that he has given a thought.
