It has been kindly pointed out to me that JKR apparently did not warn 
us off Snape but cautioned us about Malfoy, although JKR has allowed 
that Snape is not very nice. Quite the contrary, we have been told to 
keep our eye on Snape because appearances are deceiving.  I refer you 
to Talisman's excellent post #73676 on the topic of JKR's Snape 
comments.
