Snape as Malfoy's "lapdog"

Malfoy always speaks most highly of you!" to Snape, which sounds like
regardless of whether he is Lucius Malfoy's lapdog, he is in his good
graces.

Also, we don't really know much about Snape's conversations with
Quirrell. They may have left Voldemort with the impression that Snape
was loyal to Voldemort but unsure of Quirell...
