Ah, but the underwear and nightshirt would be worn next to the skin, 
where Snape would know about them but nobody else would (unless they 
rudely flipped him upside-down).  Maybe he has a sensuous streak to 
him that is hidden by his forbidding exterior.  I think maybe I'll 
keep that nice image of a grey silk nightshirt...
