I absolutely loved Susan Coopers "The Dark is Rising" series, and
still do. (Book 2, "The Dark is Rising, especially, as I accidentally
started the series with that one, and still find it the best of the
series)

The writing, imagery, and back story was wonderful on this series. (A
piece of fanfiction that is an excellent crossover between HP & "The 
Dark is Rising" has been written, too, "Harry Potter and The Legacy
of Light".)

Two things I noticed on rereading: Will Stanton's father is named
James, and the towns postmistress is named Mrs. Pettigrew...
