Ok--wild speculation.  Not only is representative of his hatered of 
Peter, but some way most likely indirectly he manages to get his 
revenge on Peter towards the end of the books (but for all you 
Sirius fans out there, maybe this indicates that in some way he will 
come back from the dead!).
