Buttercup:

I guess it's traditional to write children's books
from one point of view, the main character's, either
in first or third person.  But JKR must have felt it
necessary to tell other aspects of the plot in the
omniscient (all-knowing) point of view. She had to
since Harry wasn't there for scenes "Ffi" and Mandy
mentioned above. They say that sticking to one point
of view throughout the book makes a stronger story.
But I think JKR's occasional omniscient point of view
was essential for the story.
