Hagrid and thestrals

This is just kind of an off-hand thought:

The only people who can see thestrals are people who have 
witnessed death. We find out that Neville can see them because 
he saw his grandfather die, Luna can because of her mother, 
and Harry because of Cedric. But wait! Hagrid can see them, too! 
I wonder who he saw die... was it his father, perhaps? 

If anyone has any theories on this matter, please tell me!
