Ron would like to be overshadowed less, but it's not *that* imortant 
to him.  If it was, he wouldn't be best friends with Harry.  He'd be 
best friends with someone like Neville.  If if doesn't matter 
enought to keep their relationship from working why would to matter 
enough to keep a romatic relationship with Herminone from working?

As far as what would be good for Ron's self-esteem, the best thing 
he could do would be to quit measuring himeself agasinst other 
people.  (Easier said than done, I know.)
