Possible silly question about Werewolves

As I understand the wolfsbane potion isn't a real cure. It is just a 
way to control the condition to an extent. As far as I can tell Lupin 
still turns into a wolf , but isn't as violent and bloodthirsty as he 
would be otherwise.
