Well, you do have a point. There may well be a gay character in there 
already. And it could be Tonks, we aren't given any indication one way or 
the other. However, to assume that pink hair isn't attractive to males makes 
a rather large assumption that men don't look past the exterior. And whilst 
I agree that most men think with something other than their brain (don't 
throw tomatoes at me either, I have just lost my cheating husband through 
him doing that very thing, so I'm not altogether happy with men these days), 
there are some out there that do.

Tonks is an individual, and I like that. I dont particularly care if she's 
gay or not. Whether or not she acts feminine, or has pink or purple hair 
isn't a determining factor as to her sexuality. But I am prepared to 
concede, that you may have a point about JK putting in a stereotype in order 
to make a statement. The statement cannot be made however, unless she comes 
out, so to speak, and tells us that Tonks is gay.
